Welcome

Bacchus Grotto is a small romantic B&B located in the vieux village of Cairanne, within walking distance of all facilities. In our 3000m2 gardens you will find enough privacy to enjoy the sun, the tranquility, the view and our heated plunge pool. Our caves offer a unique experience and wonderful cooling during the Provencal summers. We have a wine cave filled with Southern Cotes du Rhone cru wines and serve Table d'Hote.

Bacchus Grotto

It was the Greeks who stood at the cradle of viticulture in the Côtes du Rhône. Then the Romans built on it further. The Côtes du Rhône is one of the most versatile wine regions in the world. It is therefore inevitable that Bacchus, the god of wine, lived in this region. However, no one knows for sure where Bacchus lived. Someone of his stature and Burgundian streak wanted a view over the vineyards. Where there was enough space to store and to keep his bottled wines. At the right temperature and with the best humidity. In its own caves. The caves of Bacchus. Caves where Bacchus liked to stay to live like a god in the Provence. Along with his followers, the Bacchantes. We therefore like to welcome all “Bacchants” of the 21st century with a wink and tribute to Bacchus. A tribute to civilization, fine arts and wine. Come and enjoy in, around and on top of our caves. Come and enjoy Bacchus Grotto!

The Cotes du Rhone!
A more than versatile wine region

The southern Côtes du Rhône is dominated by the Grenache grape. Many of the red wines are made by the GSM blend (grenache, syrah and mourvedre). The Côtes du Rhône red wines contain power, pepper, earthy tones and red and dark fruit. Aromas that you will also find in the rosé. In the white wine you can taste the warm summers, ripe apricot and peach with often an almond bitter in the finish.

The Cotes du Rhône borders Vienne to the north and the Mediterranean Sea to the south. 200km wine area with great differences in climate, terroir, type of grapes and the end product the wine. And that is why it is so interesting to visit this area and enjoy all the wine and the Provencal lifestyle, climate and cuisine. A must visit wine region for every lover of red wine, white wine and rosé.  Discover more..
